Sixpoint Brewery and BeerAdvocate host second annual celebration of beer, food and people, all for a good cause at The Bell House in Brooklyn, NY

(February 1, 2012 - Brooklyn, NY) Tickets for the second annual Beer for Beasts charity event hosted by BeerAdvocate and Sixpoint Brewery go on sale February 1, 2012, at 12pm EST. An event that celebrates creativity in the form of dozens of unique, exclusive beers brewed just for the event, inventive burlesque, and New York City's best food vendors, all in the name of compassion toward animals, Beer For Beasts was sold out in its inaugural year. The second annual event will take place March 31, 2012, at The Bell House, located in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. All proceeds will directly benefit the Humane Society of New York. Tickets are $60 and include access to one session (1pm-5pm or 6pm-10pm), beer and food tastings, and entertainment. All attendees must be 21+ with a valid ID. Tickets available at: http://beerforbeasts.com

Last year's Beer for Beasts raised nearly $30,000 to directly aid the better treatment of animals.

"It was a most successful event, and this year, we're going to raise the bar to provide more value for attendees, raise more support for The Humane Society and, of course, have more fun," stated BeerAdvocate co-founder Todd Alström.

To that end, the event will feature over 40 single-batch handcrafted beers made at Brooklyn's own Sixpoint Brewery based in Brooklyn's own Red Hook neighborhood. Many of the offerings are collaborations with friends of the brewery, including "Barley & Chinook," a single-malt, single-hop IPA named for Sixpoint founder Shane Welch's two dogs; "Champignon," a Brown Ale brewed with chanterelle mushrooms and black pepper; "Rock Lobster," a stein beer brewed with lobster shells from the Red Hook Lobster Pound; a pair of wine-yeast-fermented white beers brewed in collaboration with Red Hook Winery; and an English-style ale brewed by Jimmy Carbone and Rachel Wharton in memory of late d.b.a. owner Ray Deter. To top it all off, the featured beer of the event will also be a special yet-to-be-identified collaboration between Welch and BeerAdvocate founders Todd and Jason Alström.

The event will also feature performances from Jersey Fresh Burlesque, a leading local troupe of dancers, produced by emcee Peter Aguero. Some of New York City's finest street food vendors will be featured, including Calexico Cart and Big Gay Ice Cream, which will be debuting ice cream flavors made with Sixpoint beers. The event will also have curated music selections by East Village Radio's local DJ crew "Chances with Wolves," whose selections at last year's event were met with rave reviews.

"Beer for Beasts is the ultimate barn-raising event for brewers," said Sixpoint founder Shane Welch. "It's inspiring to see an entire community rise up for a good cause, and also share their talents for everyone to enjoy. When you combine raw creativity with good intentions, the positive outcome is boundless!"

About Sixpoint Brewery
Sixpoint was born out of an 800-square-foot garage in Brooklyn, New York City, in 2004 by homebrewer Shane Welch, who had amassed over 1,000 individual homebrew recipes. The brewery's name is derived from the ancient six-pointed brewers' star, which had symbolically adorned the walls and equipment of ancient breweries since at least the Medieval period. Sixpoint's motto is "Beer is Culture," to highlight the human trajectory—the earliest human civilizations were founded upon the cultivation of cereal grains for making beer. Sixpoint aims to perpetually inspire the art, creativity and community generated through beer by acknowledging the history of the craft, while forging ahead to inspire culture in a modern setting. http://sixpoint.com

A celebration of beer, food and people, for a good cause

(November 11, 2011 - Brooklyn, NY) BeerAdvocate and Sixpoint join forces to host the second annual Beer for Beasts charity event showcasing creative beers, food and entertainment, all in the name of compassion toward animals. Beer for Beasts will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at The Bell House, located in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn in New York City. All proceeds to benefit The Humane Society of New York City.

The first annual Beer for Beasts, held in 2011, raised nearly $30,000 to directly aid the better treatment of animals. Beer for Beasts will feature dozens of unique, handcrafted collaboration beers by Sixpoint and friends, all brewed exclusively for the event. The inaugural event featured nearly 30 small batches of one-off beers brewed in Sixpoint's Red Hook brewery--including a spontaneously fermented brew with indigenous yeasts, a bird's eye chili-laced beer, and "Knockout Punch," brewed with Hawaiian Punch--as well as food from New York City's finest food trucks, and live entertainment.

"Beer for Beasts is the ultimate barn-raising event for brewers. Whether you are a professional brewer or amateur homebrewer, it doesn't matter. We team up with those who want to lend a helping hand, and everyone is energized by the creative outpouring of support. We are now anticipating this time of year as we make Beer for Beasts an annual tradition!" said Sixpoint founder Shane Welch.
